Sam Jones is the UK Junior N#1. He has been playing padel for 5 years. He started to play at David Lloyd Chigwell, London, at the age of 12. When he was 16 he moved to Marbella to train and study. After one year in south of Spain he took the decision to move to Barcelona City where he is living and training at Club Esportiu Valldoreix. He is training with Paula Eyheraguibel, Darek Riba and Ricky Martinez.
Why did you come to Barcelona?
S: “Well I moved to Spain, actually to Marbella last September and it was good but unfortunately it was the intense training I needed to take me to the next level which Is where I want to go.
I chose the academy as it has 3 great well known coaches two of which play professionally! The academy has a great set up and structure and it has everything i need. The academy has a great reputation and is one of the first of its kind”
What do the days consist of?
“Well my days are very similar. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday I do fitness 9-11, padel 11-1. Lunch 1-2:30. Fitness 2:30-4 and padel 4-5:30. But on Wednesday I do fitness and padel in the morning and go to school in the afternoon. And on Saturday it's only in the morning, or on the weekends I play tournaments"
What are your plans and expectations for 2017?
S: “Well to keep in the top 4 in the British padel ranking and number 1 one junior place. To compete in the world padel tour. And to compete in the world championships in Málaga and represent
What do you do in your free time?
S: ”During my free time which I don't have a lot of normally I rest and try to recover from the intense work I have to do during the day. But I also socialise with some of the other academy students there, so I am having a great time in Barcelona”
What about your sponsor?
S: “Obviously LX was great to me as it was my first sponsor and they treated me very well. But I couldn't be happier to move to Head one of the great sponsors in the world of sport and I will feel very proud to wear the kit. Hope to get good results and make the brand be proud of my game.
Head is also the brand of my favourite player: Sanyo Gutierrez. I love the way he plays and he does things that are impossible, so I try to copy him but it doesn't always work. But all the professionals are a good role model to me”
This year Sam has been invited to be part of the “WPT Exhibition London”, an event which was organized by the British Padel Federation and We Are Padel together with the World Padel Tour company.
